Hi Liz, it's Wendy.
Most of the members of my family were in the military.
My grandfather flew around generals in Africa and the Middle East in World War II.
His brother, my beloved Uncle Lloyd, was a retired lieutenant Colonel in the air force, too.
They were such characters - always with an amazing story about their world travels or the war.
My mother's brother is essentially giving his life at the moment to protect our country. He's battling brain tumors, likely caused by his exposure to Agent Orange serving in the infantry in the Vietnam War.
Agent Orange is know to cause brain tumors and brain cancer, among other health issues. A very high number of our Vietnam Vets have brain tumors and cancer.
Agent Orange is a herbicide and defoliant chemical, one of the "tactical use" Rainbow Herbicides. It is widely known for its use by the U.S. military as part of its herbicidal warfare program used during the Vietnam War from 1961 to 1971.
And then there's the anthrax vaccine, the known agent responsible for Gulf War Syndrome. All soldiers received this experimental vaccine. And are paying for it today with their lives and their health.
I want to honor those who not only died in battle, but who are giving their life for our country - years after the war is over.
