Liz,
Making the right decision to withdraw our troops does not ease the pain of what we're all witnessing, nor does it erase the bravery and sacrifice of our military and civilian members who served in Afghanistan. We cannot forget the tremendous debt we owe the thousands of Afghan civilians -- journalists, translators, negotiators, embassy staff -- who risked their lives to assist the U.S. in our mission, and must do everything in our power to quickly and safely evacuate them.
If someone you know has an approved petition for a Special Immigrant Visa, please email NVCSIV@state.gov or call 1-603-334-0828 immediately.
If someone you know has worked for the U.S. Government in Afghanistan, a U.S. government-funded program or project in Afghanistan, or was employed in Afghanistan by a U.S.-based media organization or non-governmental organization, they may qualify for a P2 designation. To learn more, click here.
If you're an American citizen in Afghanistan who needs assistance returning to the United States, click here.
And if you're looking for ways to support Afghan civilians, HIAS has a comprehensive list to get you started.
On behalf of my team, our prayers are with the people of Afghanistan and all those with family and friends in the region: We will continue to fight to support these evacuation efforts in every way that we can.
Thank you, Ted
