Subject: The "heat apocalypse"
To:
The United States and large swaths of Europe are suffering record heatwaves and unprecedented wildfires. More than one thousand people have died, and tens of thousands more have been evacuated from their homes.
French authorities have called it the "heat apocalypse."
Fires were out of control in Spain, where temperatures approached 110°F:
Record temperatures were recorded throughout the United States this weekend:
And the U.K. also experienced its hottest day on record, with wildfires burning outside London:
This is the climate crisis playing out in real time. It's not too late to do something about it... but it will require urgent action from all of us who care about our planet.
We are at a crossroads. We can either accept record temperatures and intensifying climate disasters as the new normal...
... or we can resolve to organize, take on the fossil fuel industry, and fight for climate solutions together.
Even with these clear climate-driven disasters unfolding, the Senate is not moving on climate action. Despite record temperatures, President Biden has not yet declared a climate emergency.
So we must take action ourselves. Are you in?
Thanks so much for all you do.
In solidarity,
